Thanks to many years of well-founded experience in the construction of submarines (now approx. 80 units), Noske-Kaeser/Engie Axima Germany has again received the order to equip a South Korean Jangbogo-III class submarine with a nitrogen fire extinguishing system. The current order for Jangbogo-III, 2nd lot is already the fifth order for the Jangbogo-III extinguishing systems. The Jangbogo submarines are an in-house development of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.

Noske-Kaeser was able to successfully install and successfully commission the highly efficient nitrogen extinguishing system on the ships of the first lot. Compared to the 1st batch, the usability has been further improved and the triggering unit has been relocated to a different installation location.
The special feature of the N2 extinguishing system is that the proportion of nitrogen is measured exactly to the net room volume. As a result, the nitrogen content and oxygen content are coordinated in such a way that fires can be extinguished immediately without the risk of nitrogen poisoning for the crew present. This procedure, which does not necessarily require evacuation, saves valuable time when extinguishing. After determining the actual net volume, the cylinder pressure and nitrogen amount are adjusted accordingly.
The construction of the system will start in June 2022 in our production facility in Hamburg and should be completed in December. Acceptance by the customer will then take place in March 2023 at the latest.
